Obverse description A female allegorical figure, draped and in high relief, stands beside a pedestal bust of Antoine Lavoisier, the father of modern chemistry, holding an olive or palm branch above his effigy. To the right of the bust, a precision balance scale is depicted in the field, and the legend LAVOISIER 1743-1794 is inscribed on the pedestal. The whole composition is framed by a beaded border.
