| Obverse description | Standing female figure in antique drapery, facing slightly left, holding a shallow cup or patera in her left hand from which a serpent drinks, and a tall staff or spear in her right hand, its point thrust into the mouth of a vanquished dragon at her feet. The engraver's signature OUDINÉ appears in the lower left field. The circular legend runs along the beaded border, with SOCIÉTÉ DE TEMPÉRANCE and the Roman date MDCCCLXXII inscribed on a tablet in the lower exergue. |
