Obverse description A finely detailed allegorical scene in high relief depicting the marriage ceremony of the Dauphin Louis and Marie-Antoinette of Austria: the two principals join hands over a garland-decorated altar, flanked by allegorical female figures representing France and Austria, with a double-headed eagle at lower left and a fleur-de-lis escutcheon at lower right. The engraver's signature R. FIL. appears on the altar base, the circular legend SACRUM ÆTERNÆ CONCORDIÆ PIGNUS surrounds the upper field, and the exergue reads M•A•AUST• L• DELPH• NUPT• / XVI MAII MDCCLXX.
