Obverse description Left-facing bust of Marianne as a modern Minerva, wearing the Adrian helmet (casque Adrian) used during World War I, with an olive branch visible at her shoulder and a sword in the lower field. The engraver's signature A. MORLON appears in low relief at lower left. Above the medal disc, a decorative bronze suspension bar in the form of oak branches spans the full width of the ribbon.

Reverse description The central field bears the inscription GRANDE GUERRE / 1914-1918 in two lines within a recessed circular area. The surrounding border carries the legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE in large raised letters, framed by oak and laurel branches. A small mint mark (BR) appears in the lower exergue.
