Obverse description King Philippe IV enthroned facing, crowned and robed in royal regalia, holding a sceptre topped with a fleur-de-lis in his right hand and a hand of justice in his left, set within an ornate Gothic quadrilobe frame decorated with fleurs-de-lis at the cusps. Fleurs-de-lis adorn the field in the spandrels between the quadrilobe and the inner border. The circumferential Latin legend reads: + PHILIPPVS: DEI: GRA: FRANCHORVM: REX, separated from the central device by a beaded inner circle.

Reverse description A boldly struck cross fleury at centre, its four arms terminating in stylised fleurs-de-lis, set within a Gothic quadrilobe of pointed lobes framed by a beaded border. A fleur-de-lis occupies each of the four angles between the arms of the cross and the quadrilobe frame. The circumferential Latin legend, conveying the Christological acclamation, reads: + XP'C: VINCIT: XP'C: REGNAT: XP'C: IMPERAT, separated from the central device by a beaded inner circle.
