Obverse description Full-length frontal effigy of King Philip IV standing beneath a Gothic canopy (mantelet), robed in a royal mantle adorned with fleurs-de-lis, holding a scepter in his right hand, flanked by two large fleurs-de-lis in the field. The figure is rendered in high relief in the Gothic style characteristic of early Capetian gold coinage. The surrounding legend is separated from the central design by a beaded inner circle.
