Obverse description Central field bearing the imperial tughra (monogram) of Sultan Abdülhamid I in stylized Arabic calligraphy, occupying the majority of the flan. The tughra is rendered in the traditional Ottoman manner with characteristic looping forms and upright strokes. The surrounding field is plain with traces of a peripheral legend along the rim. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat roughly prepared copper flan, typical of provincial Ottoman hammered coinage of the late 18th century.
