Additional information

Struck during the Ottoman civil war known as the Fetret Devri — the "Interregnum" — this copper issue belongs to one of the most chaotic episodes in the dynasty's history. Following Timur's crushing defeat of Bayezid I at the Battle of Ankara in 1402, four of Bayezid's sons fought over the remnants of the empire for over a decade. Suleiman Çelebi controlled Rumelia and the European territories from Edirne, making his coinage the westward-facing claim to Ottoman legitimacy while his brothers held Anatolia.

Copper manghirs from this period are poorly documented and difficult to attribute with certainty — die variety research remains incomplete.
