| Beschrijving voorzijde | Struck on an irregular elongated oval flan typical of Ottoman hammered copper coinage, the obverse bears a multi-line Arabic legend disposed across the field identifying the sovereign. The inscription, reading 'Sultan Ahmed son of Mehmed Khan' accompanied by the AH regnal year 1128, is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude calligraphic hand consistent with provincial mint practice. The surface displays heavy green-brown patination with areas of corrosion obscuring portions of the legend. No decorative border is present, the legend filling the available field in the manner characteristic of early eighteenth-century Ottoman mangir issues. |
