Reverse description Plain irregular hammered silver surface bearing a single large kanji character 文 (bun) stamped in bold relief at center, identifying the Genbun era (1736–1741) of the Tokugawa shogunate. The character is rendered in a regular script style (kaisho) and occupies the majority of the available field on the irregular flan. Three small circular dot stamps flank the character, a typical authenticating feature of Genbun mameitagin issues. The flan edges are rough and uneven, characteristic of the bean-shaped hammered silver coinage produced by the Kinza silver mint.
