正面描述 Central device depicting the stylized emblem of Daikoku, the god of wealth, rendered in the conventional Edo-period die-stamped style. The design features the characteristic hammered motif with the Daikoku figure surmounting a bale of rice, flanked by decorative elements. Within the central field, the kanji character '政' (sei, from 'Ansei') is incused, serving as the era-name authentication mark identifying the Ansei period of issue. The surrounding field retains the characteristic irregular hammered surface typical of mameitagin coinage.

附加信息

The Ansei Mameitagin were emergency silver pieces authorized in 1859 following Japan's forced opening to foreign trade under the Convention of Kanagawa and subsequent treaties. Foreign merchants quickly discovered that the exchange rate imposed by the Tokugawa shogunate grossly undervalued Japanese gold relative to silver, triggering a massive outflow of gold koban from the country. The shogunate's response was to debase the silver coinage sharply — the Ansei issues dropped to roughly 13.5% fineness from the far purer Tenpo predecessors — partly to discourage arbitrage and partly to replenish depleted reserves.

The Double Daikoku stamp denotes a specific additional certification punch applied at the Ginza. Two Daikoku marks indicate a revalidation or supplemental authorization, distinguishing these pieces within an already complex series of overstruck and restamped mameitagin.
