| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Emperor Valentinian II, rendered in the standard late Roman imperial portrait style, adorned with a pearl diadem, draped paludamentum, and cuirass. The effigy is executed with characteristic late antique stylization, the drapery folds visible at the truncation. The encircling Latin legend reads D N VALENTINI-ANVS P F AVG, identifying the emperor by his titles of piety and victory. The portrait conveys imperial authority through its frontal rigidity and military accoutrements, typical of the Theodosian workshop output from the Nicomedia mint. |
