| Obverse description | Bareheaded, draped, and cuirassed bust of the usurper Magnentius facing right, rendered in the robust late Roman military portrait style. The emperor's strong, clean-shaven features and layered cuirass are characteristic of mid-fourth-century provincial die-cutting. The obverse legend runs clockwise around the periphery. The Greek letter Γ (gamma) appears as a control mark in the left field behind the bust, denoting an officina or batch designation. |
