Honorius received the title Augustus in January 393 at age eight, installed by his father Theodosius I as co-ruler of the West while Theodosius managed the East from Constantinople. The Nicomedia mint was one of the empire's most productive eastern facilities during this period, operating under tight imperial control as Theodosius consolidated authority following his defeat of the usurper Eugenius. RIC IX 46c belongs to a well-documented emission from this reign but sees relatively limited collector attention compared to the western mint issues — Nicomedia's output from these years survives in reasonable numbers.
