| 裏面の説明 | The emperor stands facing, head turned to the right, in full military attire, holding a long labarum-style standard in his right hand and a Victory-surmounted globe in his left, conveying imperial authority over the Roman world. The figure is rendered in the stiff, frontal late antique style characteristic of Theodosian-era bronze coinage. The reverse legend GLORIA-ROMANORVM, meaning 'Glory of the Romans', is divided on either side of the standing figure. The mintmark in the exergue identifies the Nicomedia mint, with officina letters denoting the 3rd (SMNΓ) or 4th (SMNΔ) workshop. |

Honorius received the title Augustus in January 393 at age eight, elevated by his father Theodosius I who was simultaneously fighting Eugenius and Arbogast in the west. The Nicomedia mint was one of the eastern workshops supplying coinage to prop up imperial legitimacy during that internal war. Theodosius died in January 395, splitting the empire between Honorius in the west and Arcadius in the east — making this precise date range one of the last moments the Roman Empire functioned as a single administrative unit.
