| Beschrijving keerzijde | The emperor, depicted in military attire with helmet, stands facing right, raising a kneeling female figure — personifying the Roman Republic or a defeated province — with his right hand, while holding a standard (labarum) surmounted by a Chi-Rho christogram in his left. The composition conveys imperial renewal and restoration in the propagandistic idiom of late antiquity. The encircling legend REPARATIO REIPVB proclaims the restoration of the republic. The mint mark SMRB appears in the exergue, identifying this example as the product of the second officina of the Rome mint. The reverse type and style are consistent with issues struck under Gratian between 378 and 383 AD. |
