Additional information

Decentius was elevated as Caesar by his brother Magnentius in 351, a dynastic move intended to shore up control of the western provinces while Magnentius himself faced Constantius II in the east. The campaign ended catastrophically at Mursa Major in 351 — one of the bloodiest battles of the fourth century — and the brothers' position deteriorated rapidly thereafter. When Magnentius died by his own hand in August 353, Decentius followed suit days later.

Amiens served as a significant mint for the usurpation, and RIC VIII Amiens 6 is among the scarcer issues from that workshop.
