Reverse description Helmeted bust of a male figure facing right, rendered in a schematic Romanesque style typical of Flemish moneyer coinage of the late 12th to early 13th century. The figure appears to hold a sword upright before him, indicative of comital or military authority. The portrait is executed with bold, somewhat crude relief consistent with the hammered technique and small module of the denomination. The moneyer's name ARNOT appears as the legend in the field, identifying the issuing authority responsible for the coin's production at Aalst.
