| Obverse description | A crozier with a volute head is depicted centrally, flanked on either side by a vertically ribbed rod terminating in a globule at the base; the entire device is enclosed within two concentric pointed rings. Two spiral ornaments occupy the left and right fields outside the central group, lending a symmetrical decorative quality characteristic of 12th-century Flemish anonymous coinage. |

Anonymous silver obols struck at Middelburg circulated in Zeeland and coastal Flanders during a period when the county's minting rights were contested between the Count of Flanders and the Bishop of Utrecht. Middelburg's mint was among the smaller operations in the region, and attributions within this anonymous series remain contested — Ghyssens' numbering separates two subtypes that many dealers still conflate.
