Reverse description Central field contains a three-line Arabic inscription reading 'Darb / bi-Harar / 1284', indicating the mint of Harar and the AH date of issue 1284 (corresponding to 1868 CE). The legend is struck in a rough, angular hand consistent with the hand-hammered technique employed at the Harar mint. A beaded border encircles the inscription, irregular and partially incomplete owing to the uneven flan. The reverse shares the same primitive, utilitarian artistic character as the obverse.
