| Opis awersu | The obverse displays the host coin's original design, a Portuguese royal arms of João IV consisting of the crowned escutcheon of Portugal with the traditional five quinas and bordure of castles, set within a circular beaded border with a partial Latin legend surrounding the field. Two distinct countermarks have been applied to this face: a rectangular stamp bearing a crowned '300' denomination mark, and a smaller circular countermark showing the crowned initials 'G.P.' (for Governo Português), both struck over the original host coin's design as part of the 1887 revaluation for Azorean circulation. |
