Thai temple banknote amulets — known as pra tha-nan or bat phleng — occupy an unusual space between votive object and folk currency. Wat Khlong Khun issued this example under the authority of Luang Por Wan, a revered monk whose personal charisma drives collector demand more than any institutional prestige. These notes are not legal tender and were never intended to be; they are sold at the temple during merit-making events, with proceeds funding construction or restoration projects.
Phichit Province has a strong regional tradition of monk-issued amulet notes, and pieces bearing a well-regarded abbot's name circulate actively in the Thai amulet market long after the original merit event ends.
