Reverse description An allegorical scene in high relief depicting a seated figure of France, armed with a spear, extending a fleur-de-lis shield toward a kneeling, supplicant female figure representing Alsace. The two figures are surrounded by ten oval shields bearing the heraldic arms of the ten imperial cities of the Alsatian Decapolis, arranged in an arc. The Latin legend is divided between the upper circumference and a three-line inscription in the lower exergue.
