Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Louis XIV wearing a laurel wreath and long flowing wig, occupying most of the field. The circular Latin legend reads LVDOVICVS MAGNVS REX, with engraver's initials CL in the lower exergue beneath the truncation. The rim is decorated with a fine beaded border.

Reverse description A lion passant to the left in high relief occupies the central field, set on a ground line. The Latin legend PROPRIIS INVICTVS IN ARMIS appears around the upper portion of the rim, while the French inscription ORDINAIRE DES GVERRES is displayed in two lines within the lower exergue, separated from the field by a horizontal line. The rim bears a beaded border throughout.
