| Obverse description | Diademed head of the nymph Arethusa facing right, her hair elaborately bound with a beaded diadem and arranged in finely incised parallel locks falling behind the neck. A small earring is visible at the ear. The portrait is rendered in an early Classical style of considerable refinement, with a dotted border encircling the field. The inscription ΣΥΡΑ appears partially in the field to the right of the head. |

| Reverse description | An octopus depicted frontally and symmetrically in the center of the plain field, its eight tentacles curling outward in dynamic, naturalistic scrolls filling the flan. The body is rendered with a smooth, ovoid mantle, and the curling arms radiate in a radially balanced composition characteristic of Syracusan small silver coinage of the early Second Democracy period. The reverse is without legend or additional devices. |
