Obverse description Facing right, the bearded and horned head of Lacydon, the eponymous river god of the natural harbor of Massalia, rendered in archaic Greek style with bold, schematic features. The horn, a standard divine attribute of river deities in Greek iconography, rises from the forehead. The ethnic legend ΛΑΚΥΔΩΝ appears in the field, identifying the deity. The flan is small and irregular, consistent with the hammered fabric typical of this series.
