| Obverse description | Forepart of a man-headed bull advancing to the left, rendered in the Siceliote artistic tradition characteristic of the mid-fourth century BC. The humanoid head is depicted in left-facing profile with boldly modelled features, while the powerful bovine body is shown in three-quarter perspective. The ethnic legend ΣIΛEPAIΩN curves around the upper field, identifying the issuing community of Silerae. The relief is strong and well-defined, typical of Sicilian bronze coinage of this period. |
