| Obverse description | Facing head of the nymph Segesta rendered in fine archaic-to-early Classical style, her gaze directed slightly to the left, hair arranged in neat waves secured by a plain diadem or fillet across the brow. The effigy is framed symmetrically on either side by laurel branches curving inward, their leaves rendered in low relief. A beaded border encircles the entire design. The modelling of the face shows a sensitive treatment of the cheeks and chin characteristic of Sicilian die-cutting of the late fifth century BC. |

| Reverse description | A hound stands alert in left profile, its muscular body rendered with naturalistic detail typical of Sicilian coinage of the period. Above the hound, a facing gorgoneion with protruding tongue occupies the upper field. A conch shell appears in the left field. The ethnic legend EΓESTAION is arranged around the periphery, partially retrograde, in archaic Greek characters. |
