Beschrijving voorzijde A scallop shell depicted in facing view, with radiating ribs fanning outward from the hinge at the base, rendered in low relief against a plain field. The irregular flan is bordered by a partial ring of raised pellets forming a dotted border around the periphery. The shell is naturalistically engraved in the archaic Greek tradition, its ribbed surface conveying the characteristic form of a pecten shell, a civic emblem closely associated with the maritime identity of Tarentum.

Beschrijving keerzijde A four-spoked wheel with a prominent central boss or pellet at the hub, enclosed within a raised circular border and a further outer incuse ring, all set within the plain field of the flan. The four spokes radiate symmetrically from the central hub to the rim, dividing the field into four equal segments. This geometric device, characteristic of early coinage from Tarentum and other Magna Graecia mints, is rendered with crisp lines typical of the archaic hammered technique.
