| 背面描述 | A powerfully modelled lion, depicted in right profile in a crouching, predatory posture, savages the severed head of a stag held beneath its forepaws; the musculature and mane of the lion are rendered with vigorous detail characteristic of Sicilian bronze coinage of this period. A ground line separates the main field from the exergue, beneath which a monogram control mark is prominently placed in the lower field. |

Morgantina occupied a strategically valuable position in central Sicily, and its coinage emerged during one of the island's most turbulent periods — bracketed by Timoleon's campaign to liberate Greek Sicily from Carthaginian dominance and the rise of Agathocles of Syracuse, who ultimately destroyed the city around 317 BC. This bronze litra almost certainly circulated within that compressed window of restored civic autonomy that Timoleon's victories made possible after 339 BC.
The city was subsequently resettled with Campanian mercenaries by Agathocles, ending its independent civic identity entirely. Few Sicilian mints had shorter windows of autonomous issue.
