Obverse description Facing lion's head rendered in high relief, depicted frontally with boldly modelled mane splaying outward from the crown and brow. The broad muzzle is naturalistically detailed, with the open jaws and pronounced facial musculature characteristic of early Sicilian coinage. The design is executed in an archaic style with strong plastic quality. The entire device is contained within a beaded border encircling the coin's field.
