| Obverse description | A rampant lion facing left occupies the central field, rendered in a bold Gothic style characteristic of medieval Low Countries coinage. The lion is depicted with raised forepaws and a curling tail, set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding field is decorated with a quatrefoil or trefoil ornamental border composed of alternating roundels, typical of Flemish and Hollandish groat design. The outer legend in uncial Latin reads MONETA HOLAND, identifying this as the coinage of Holland. |
