| Reverse description | Central field displays a quatrefoil frame enclosing a plain cross pattée in high relief, the arms of the cross extending to the inner edges of the lobed surround. A beaded border encircles the central device, with the field between the border and the outer legend filled with the same radiating wedge ornaments seen on the obverse, consistent with the Light Genovino type. The peripheral legend in uncial script reads ✠ · CVNRADVS ⸰ REX · (Conrad, King), invoking the name of the Holy Roman Emperor Conrad as imperial authority, a longstanding Genoese monetary convention maintained well after his reign. The design is characteristic of the simplified, bold relief work typical of late 13th-century Genoese hammered gold coinage. |
