Louis XII struck liards across numerous provincial mints in the final years of his reign, with the Aix-en-Provence facility distinguished by the L mintmark — a source of occasional confusion with the Louis initial itself given the coin's type name. The king died in January 1515, making 1514 issues among the last produced under his authority, struck just months before Francis I overhauled the billon coinage entirely.
