| 正面描述 | Central field displays the crowned initial M of Princess Mary of Dombes, flanked by three fleurs-de-lis arranged in a 2-and-1 pattern — two in the upper field and one below — evoking the royal French heraldic tradition. The crown surmounting the M is rendered in relief with characteristic early seventeenth-century style. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, interrupted by a heart-shaped privy mark. The coin's irregular flan is typical of hammered billon issues of this period. |

Dombes was a sovereign principality on the Saône plain northeast of Lyon, and its minting rights — exercised independently of the French crown — produced a long series of small billon issues under Marie de Montpensier (later Marie de Bourbon), who governed from 1608 until her death in 1627. This liard falls within that reign, struck at the Trévoux mint, the principality's sole operating facility. Dombes was absorbed into France only in 1762, meaning its coinage remained technically foreign currency circulating alongside French issues for well over a century.
