| Opis awersu | Dolphin facing left occupies the central field, rendered in a stylized late-medieval manner typical of French billon coinage. The dolphin serves as the heraldic emblem of the Dauphiné region, reflecting Charles VIII's title as Dauphin of France prior to and at the time of his accession. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which the circumferential legend in uncial Gothic lettering reads KAROLVS FRAnCORVm REX.
