Reverse description A long cross pattee divides the field into four quarters, cantoned with two fleurs-de-lis in the first and fourth quarters and two royal crowns in the second and third quarters, all within a beaded inner circle. This quartered arrangement is a characteristic type of the French royal liard coinage under Louis XII. The surrounding legend SIT: NOME: DNI: BENEDICTV, an abbreviated invocation meaning 'Blessed be the name of the Lord,' encircles the design in the outer field. The strike is typical of hammered provincial mint production, with slightly irregular flan and variable depth of relief.
