| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central crowned royal monogram composed of two interlaced letter A's (one reversed) and a letter I, surmounted by a crown. A six-pointed star appears in the lower field beneath the monogram. The circumferential legend runs in Latin along the coin's border, interrupted by pellet stops. The overall design is characteristic of the hammered billon coinage of the Lordship of Béarn under the joint reign of Anthony of Bourbon and Joan of Albret. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Anthony of Bourbon held Béarn only through his wife — Joan of Albret was the sovereign in her own right, heir to the kingdom of Navarre and the viscountcy of Béarn through her mother Margaret of Angoulême. The joint coinage of this period reflects that uneasy arrangement: Anthony's name appears first by convention, but Joan's authority was the legal foundation for the issue. Their marriage was notoriously strained, and Anthony's death at the siege of Rouen in 1562 ended the joint series abruptly, leaving Joan to rule and coin in her own name until her death in 1572.
