Obverse description Central device composed of five heraldic escutcheons arranged in the form of a cross: at the top, a shield bearing horizontal bars (Hungary); at left, a shield divided per fess; at centre, a shield bearing a perron (the Liège civic emblem); at right, a shield bearing a lion rampant; and at the bottom, a shield bearing three roundels or bezants. The four digits of the date 1852 are placed in the four angles between the arms of the cross. A circular Latin legend runs along the entire periphery of the field, enclosed within a beaded border.
