Reverse description The reverse face of the hairpin bar displays a hammered Arabic legend running along the length of the flattened silver rod, executed in cursive Naskh script. The inscription comprises the Shi'a shahada followed by the enumeration of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'ism, a hallmark of Safavid coinage. The surface shows foliate or scrolling decorative elements at the bend of the wire, visible where the two arms of the hairpin meet. The legend is incuse and somewhat irregular in depth due to the hand-hammered technique. The reverse, like the obverse, reflects the distinctly non-circular format of the larin, with text adapted to the elongated flan.
