An inscription in Ancient South Arabian (Sabaic) script is distributed around or adjacent to the central device, naming the issuing ruler and his kingdom. The scyphate flan imparts a shallow concavity to the reverse, characteristic of this class of Himyarite gold issues. The overall design reflects the blending of South Arabian epigraphic tradition with simplified Hellenistic iconographic elements. |
