Joanna of Brabant and her husband Wenceslas of Luxembourg issued this coin jointly during a period when Brabant's currency was under sustained pressure from competing Flemish and French monetary policies. The dual-authority arrangement was politically deliberate — Wenceslas held no independent right to rule Brabant, and his name on the coinage was a diplomatic concession that cost Joanna real symbolic ground. She would ultimately outlive him by over two decades and reign alone.
