| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Mahmud I in fine calligraphic relief, surrounded by decorative foliate and floral ornaments. Below the tughra, the mint name Kostantiniyye (Constantinople) is inscribed in Arabic script, with the regnal year 1143 (AH) appearing beneath. The entire design is enclosed within a double dotted and cable border typical of Ottoman hammered coinage of the period. The composition is rendered in the bold, angular calligraphic style characteristic of early eighteenth-century Ottoman mint work. |
