| Reverse description | Four horizontal registers of Arabic calligraphic inscriptions enclosed within a multi-line rectangular cartouche, reading the royal titulature of Sultan Mahmud I. The legend identifies the ruler as 'Sultan of the two lands and Khagan of the two seas, Sultan son of Sultan,' a standard Ottoman honorific formula used on coinage of this period. The field surrounding the cartouche is filled with a dense floral arabesque pattern typical of early eighteenth-century Ottoman coin design. The inscription is rendered in clear Ottoman Turkish calligraphic style with decorative flourishes at the borders. |
