The composition reflects Frederick V's dominion over the Austrian and Styrian territories. The central devices are enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a Latin legend in uncial characters arranged in four segments between the inner and outer beaded borders. The date 82 (for 1482) is incorporated into the legend. |

Frederick V — better known as Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor — ruled the Duchy of Austria through decades of sustained crisis: Hungarian occupation of Vienna under Matthias Corvinus lasted from 1485 until Frederick's death in 1493, meaning coins struck in the early 1480s were produced just before the imperial capital fell to a foreign king. The CNA Fb22 attribution places this issue within a tightly documented sequence of Kreuzer types for the Austrian duchy, distinct from his imperial coinage.
Frederick's minting rights were frequently contested by his own son Maximilian, who forced a co-regency in 1490.
