Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a bold cross pattée occupies the entire central field, with the arms extending nearly to the inner circle, rendered in a flat hammered style typical of Swiss billon coinage of the period. The surrounding circular legend, separated by a rosette stop, references the founding attribution to Berthold of Zähringen, lord and founder of the city of Bern, in abbreviated Latin. The legends are rendered in Gothic lettering consistent with the obverse.
