Obverse description Typical wire money (chekha) design depicting an armored equestrian figure — representing the Tsar — mounted on a galloping horse facing right, lance or spear held forward in the classic St. George tradition. The irregular flan, characteristic of hammered wire coinage, gives the design an elongated, oval field. Cyrillic date characters appear beneath the hooves of the horse in the lower field.
