Kopeck - Peter I / Ivan V with the name of Peter

From 1682 to 1696, Russia was nominally ruled by two tsars simultaneously — the sickly Ivan V and his younger half-brother Peter, both installed under pressure following the Streltsy revolt, with their sister Sophia acting as regent behind the arrangement. Coins of this joint reign were struck in the old wire-money tradition, hand-cut from drawn silver rod and hammer-struck between dies, a technique already archaic by Western standards. This piece carries Peter's name despite the dual rulership, reflecting the political balancing act of the regency period.

Sophia's regency collapsed in 1689, leaving Peter in effective control, though Ivan retained his co-tsar title until his death in 1696.
