| Beschrijving voorzijde | Obverse of this wire money (cheshуika) depicts a stylized equestrian figure of the Tsar riding right, rendered in the traditional schematic manner characteristic of late Muscovite hammered coinage. The rider, conventionally representing the sovereign, is shown on horseback with a lance or spear directed downward, set within the irregularly shaped, lozenge-like flan typical of the period. Below or beside the horseman, the Cyrillic date legend ΨЯI (denoting the year 1711 in Church Slavonic numeration) appears in the field. The design is deeply struck but distorted by the irregular planchet, with details softened by the wire-hammering technique. The overall execution reflects the archaic workshop tradition of the Moscow Mint in the final years of wire kopeck production under Peter I. |
