Obverse description Crude hammered design on an irregular flan depicting a mounted horseman (the traditional image of St. George or the Tsar) facing right, shown on horseback with a spear or lance directed downward toward a serpent or fallen figure below. The design is characteristic of the Russian wire money (cheshuyka) tradition, struck with considerable die incompleteness due to the small, irregular planchet. Relief is bold but uneven, with the field showing typical surface irregularities of hammered wire coinage.
